Produced by the Federal Ordnance Department during the Civil War, this fired Hotchkiss percussion shell is on the rough side but does come with its fuse adapter, and base cup. Recovered from an unknown battlefield location, the defused projectile has its original time brass fuse adapter intact in the nose of the artillery round. The most unusual thing about this shell is the fact, the lead projectiles are still in it and has been exposed due to a hole that has been punched through the sidewall. Shell body surface is rough and shows the three flame grooves cut through the base cap. All gun metal surface is heavily pocked and pitted. The iron base cup is intact and complete. Exterior of the cylindrical shell has acquired a dark patina. Length: 7¼”; diameter: 3.”
Price: $225.00 USD (Sale Pending)
