All leather construction, chit measures approximately 12 X 8 1/2. The chit shows age, wear and is soiled. It is a nice construction of multi-piece leather and has never been on a jacket. Chit reads "This foreign person has come to China to help in the war effort. Soldiers and civilians, one and all, should rescue, protect, and provide him medical care".
The "Blood Chit" (Identification or Rescue Flags) displays a message aimed at the civilian population to aid the servicemen in the event they are shot down. They were typically worn on the back of flight jackets, although they were later sewn into the inside of the jackets. Typically a reward would be offered to help the downed flyer make it back safely to Allied lines. The rewards were commonly monetary.
